Companies House has confirmed a change to its company names examination policy from 1 September 2011.(Free access.)
Companies House has confirmed that, from 1 September 2011, it will no longer accept company names on documents submitted to the registrar of companies which contain minor variations or typographical errors, with two exceptions:
A small number of abbreviations will be accepted, namely: those with any name ending listed below; "Co" instead of "company"; and "&" instead of "and".
The word "THE" may be omitted, but only at the front of the name.
Companies House will reject the document where a name has an abbreviation other than any of the following:
For public companies: public limited company; plc; p.l.c.; cwmmi cyfyngedig cyhoeddus; ccc; c.c.c.
For LLPs: Limited Liability Partnership; LLP; L.L.P.; Partneriaeth Atebolrwydd Cyfyngedig; PAC; P.A.C.
For private limited companies: limited; ltd; ltd.; cyfyngedig; cyf; cyf.
For Community Interest Companies (private limited): Community Interest Company; CIC; C.I.C.; Cwmni Buddiant Cymunedol; CBC; C.B.C.
For Community Interest Companies (public limited): Community Interest Public Limited Company; Community Interest PLC; Community Interest P.L.C.; Cwmni Buddiant Cymunedol Cyhoeddus Cyfyngedig; Cwmni Buddiant Cymunedol CCC; Cwmni Buddiant Cymunedol C.C.C.
Companies House has changed its policy to try and reduce the current level of rejections and to ensure that documents are entered onto the correct company record. It also highlighted the importance of providing the correct company number when presenting documents to Companies House.
