Online infringement of IPRs: a growing concern

The growth of the internet has exacerbated the difficulties that intellectual property owners face in protecting their rights, and raised issues for online intermediaries concerning liability for infringements committed by users of their sites. This article summarises some of the key legal issues facing the online community in the UK and the US, and provides an overview of the EC E-Commerce Directive as it affects the liability of online intermediaries in the EU.
